Christine Matthews is the Director of Audiology and Speech at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System. She is a Board Certified Specialist in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders and is the Chair of the National VA Speech Pathology Field Advisory Council. Matthews serves on a number of Veterans Health Administration projects and led the development of the first set of VHA Clinical Practice Recommendations for Managing Communication and Swallowing Impairments in Patients with Tracheostomies, has presented nationally on a variety of Surgical Airway and Dysphagia-related topics, and is published in the areas of Dysphagia and Aphasia. Her primary areas of clinical interest include managing the communication and swallowing impairments of patients with tracheostomies on and off the ventilator and in patients with chronic and progressive neurological diseases, particularly ALS.
