The School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS) Wellness Pavilion, a University of Pittsburgh Community Engagement Center (CEC) in Homewood, has started the Wellness Pavilion Clinic initiative, a partnership with Primary Care Health Services aimed at supporting the health and well-being of the surrounding community.

Starting fall 2024, the Wellness Pavilion Clinic will be offering a range of clinical and rehabilitation therapy services for free. These services will be administered by SHRS program faculty and students training to become clinicians in these fields.

Available Services

Aphasia Therapy: Small and large aphasia therapy groups

The focus of small group therapy will be the life participation approach to aphasia (LPAA), utilizing supported conversation to engage people with aphasia in activities of interest to them and reconnecting them with community. This requires a commitment to come weekly and registration with Chrisa Kravetz, MA CCC-SLP (email: chk247@pitt.edu). The Wellness Pavilion also offers a weekly “large group” support group, with a guest speaker, member spotlight and small group breakout sessions. It is open to people with aphasia and their caregivers and/or loved ones. No commitment required for large group, those participating can come when their schedule allows.

Audiology Services: Hearing evaluations, hearing aid fittings, discussion of results and recommendations

Services include hearing evaluations, the discussion of results and recommendations for follow-up. Audiologists will provide hearing aid fittings, including any troubleshooting, repairs and help with batteries. Information and other resources will be provided to help individuals access no-cost amplified or captioned phones.

Chiropractic Care: Comprehensive chiropractic treatments to support spinal health and overall wellness.

Chiropractors will conduct an examination to find out which muscles, joints or nerves are causing an individual’s pain. They might use gentle hands-on techniques to stretch tight muscles and loosen stiff joints, which often relieves pressure on painful nerves. They may also suggest easy exercises to strengthen weak muscles and improve how you move. If needed, chiropractors can arrange for an x-ray or MRI or refer you to another specialist.

Physician Assistant Care: Primary care consultations.

Physician Assistants will be offering primary care services at the Wellness Pavilion Clinic. These services include the completion of a thorough history and physical examination, ordering applicable bloodwork, and submitting referrals to other specialties as needed.

Services from other Pitt health care programs will continue to be added later this year. Check this page later to learn more throughout the fall!
