The SHRS Center for Interprofessional Studies is partnering with the Emergency Medicine program to offer First on the Scene (FOTS) training for the SHRS community. First on the Scene training equips individuals with the essential skills to respond to life-threatening emergencies until professional medical help arrives. FOTS is a crucial course for students, staff or faculty who might find themselves in a situation where they are the first person to respond to an accident or medical crisis.

By having more people from SHRS participate in this training, we will make our workplaces safer and reinforce SHRS' reputation of caring for one another in our communities.

Curriculum and Schedule

FOTS consists of two required components:

  • Online lessons on Canvas
  • One 1.5 hour in-person skill session that includes:
    • Skills to "stop the bleed"
    • Supporting someone with chest trauma
    • Administering Naloxone and an auto-injector
    • Performing CPR and using an AED

All participants will receive a National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) Certificate of Completion and the first-ever SHRS Interprofessional Studies First on the Scene badge.
