Juleen Rodakowski, Chair, Department of Occupational Therapy
The University of Pittsburgh is making history with intentional actions for the future. History, time and context may all be considered relevant parts of our university’s conversation and activities. This year Joan T.A. Gabel was named 19th University of Pittsburgh chancellor. Gabel is the first woman to lead the University since its founding in 1787. In our own profession, the 100-year history of occupational therapy is poised to remain adaptable to the context of today’s environment within the University and in the professional context. I am energized by our ability to infuse technology into practice, adapt to the unique needs of community-oriented practice and serve those who are most vulnerable in society. In this NewsLink, I encourage you to read about some of the ways in which our department is learning from our history and adapting our practice for the context that is relevant today.
