Gutiérrez is an associate professor in the Department of PA Studies and serves as its inaugural vice chair for Student Success. In this role, he will support learners of all programs as well as direct faculty development activities related to this area. He has a vested interest in assuring student success and student wellness. His academic specializations include adult learning, instructional techniques, curriculum design and evaluation, and qualitative research. His research interests are in the areas of postgraduate PA education and inclusive professional development of physician assistant educators.

Gutiérrez started as adjunct faculty in the Physician Assistant Studies Hybrid Program in 2021 and is adjunct faculty for the Doctor of Education in Health Professions program at A.T. Still University. He earned his Bachelor of Science at New Mexico State University, Master of Medical Science in physician assistant studies at Midwestern University-Glendale, and Doctor of Education in health professions at A.T. Still University.

Since 2015, Gutierrez has been practicing family medicine with a focus on LGBT+ health serving a mostly Spanish-speaking, minoritized community in west Phoenix, Arizona. He previously worked at Mayo Clinic specializing in PreOperative Medicine. Currently, he is the chair of the DEI Committee at the Arizona State Association of Physician Assistant and has a passion to promote diversity in the PA profession.
