The University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS) today announced its new and improved rankings for educational programs in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2021 edition of Best Graduate Schools.
Rankings have improved for two SHRS graduate programs – Occupational Therapy is now ranked #3 in the country, moving from its spot at #4. Speech-Language Pathology realized the largest jump from #7 to #3. Physical Therapy remains #1 for the second consecutive rankings report, as well as the Audiology program listed at #7. No SHRS program rankings fell and no other PT, OT, SLP or Audiology programs ranked higher within the state of Pennsylvania.
Graduates of these SHRS programs perform exceedingly well on national licensure or board examinations consistently scoring at or above 96%. “Having four SHRS graduate programs listed among the best in the nation exemplifies our school’s commitment to providing an unparalleled environment for education and training, and speaks to our standards when it comes to the quality of all SHRS programming, “ said Dr. Anthony Delitto, professor and dean.
Every four years, U.S News collects data by surveying experts who teach and direct programs in multiple health care professions asking them to evaluate their peers. U.S. News surveys only accredited programs.
Pitt's Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh is one of the oldest physical therapist educational programs in the United States, having started in 1927. Other programs offered through SHRS include Athletic Training/Sports Medicine/Sports Science, Counseling, Emergency Medicine, Health Information Management, Nutrition Science/Nutrition and Dietetics, Physician Assistant Studies, Prosthetics and Orthotics, Rehabilitation Science (undergraduate program) and Rehabilitation Technology.
