Kimberly A. Peterson

Kimberly Peterson is an assistant professor in the Department of Health Information Management (HIM). She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Information Management and her Master’s degree in Healthcare Supervision and Management from the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh. She has worked extensively in leadership roles in various HIM departments in the healthcare environment for the past 25 years. She also was the HIPAA Privacy Officer in several healthcare settings and has consulted on HIM principles in healthcare settings both nationally and internationally. She received her Doctorate degree in Rehabilitation Science in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh. Her dissertation research involved creating a quality-of-life scale to measure trauma levels, health and wellbeing in socioeconomically challenged communities. She is a member of the Neighborhood Resilience Project in Pittsburgh. She has held leadership roles in the local HIM association and is active in the state and national HIM association.
