Graduation is not an automatic process, you must submit a Graduation Application. See deadlines below for the term in which you are graduating. 

It is the responsibility of the student to declare (notify) any other Pitt Schools that they are doing a minors/certificates/dual degrees prior to submitting their Graduation Application to SHRS.

Things to keep in mind when applying:

Your name on your graduation application must be identical to the way it appears in PeopleSoft. You will be required to provide legal documentation to change your name. Acceptable forms of documentation are: Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, Divorce Decree, Formal Court Order

To ensure your diploma is routed to the correct address, you can update your graduation address up to one month prior to the end of your graduation term/session. 

  • To update your Graduation Address, log onto PeopleSoft/HighPoint CX. Navigate to My Profile and then Contact Information.
  • You must be in good financial standing with the University to receive your diploma. Other information regarding Post-Graduation and your diplomas can be found on here on the University Registrar’s website.

SHRS December 2024 Graduation Application Deadlines: (Graduation Term - 2251)  

  • Information will be emailed to SHRS students that are eligible to graduate in December approx. on Sept 8th. 
  • SHRS's Final date to submit an application without a fee is Sept. 22nd

SHRS April 2025 Graduation Application Deadlines: (Graduation Term - 2254) 

  • Information on when and how to apply will be sent to the student's Pitt email in the fall term prior to the spring graduation term.
  • Final date to submit an application is TBD

SHRS June 2025 Graduation Application Deadlines: (Graduation Term - 2257) 

  • Information on when and how to apply will be sent to the student's Pitt email in the spring term prior to the spring graduation term.
    Final date to submit an application is TBD

SHRS August 2025 Graduation Application Deadlines: (Graduation Term - 2257)  

  • Information on when and how to apply will be sent to the student's Pitt email in the spring term prior to the spring graduation term.
    Final date to submit an application is TBD

Theses/Dissertations

If you are completing a master's thesis or dissertation, please visit the Doctoral/Master Thesis web page for instructions on the ETD process. Please email Courtney Fleck at courtney.fleck@pitt.edu to obtain your ETD packet. 

Diplomas

Diplomas are mailed from the Main University Registrar to the address you supplied on your graduation application. Students will be notified via their campus email when their diploma has been shipped.  

All Undergrad and Graduate students receive an 8.5x11 diploma from the University, except for PHD students who receive a 12 x16.

Official Transcripts

You can order an official transcript online using the University Registrars website Transcripts/Verifications

SHRS Certificates

If you completed a certificate from SHRS, you will be mailed the certificate from SHRS to the address you supplied on your graduation application.  If you have a question on your SHRS certificate, please contact Kellie Beach at kbeach@pitt.edu.
