The Ivan and Mary Novick Award for Young Alumni Leadership recognizes leaders who are recent graduates. Pitt Doctor of Occupational Therapy alumna Julia Lam (A&S '20, SHRS '20, '23G) received this distinguished award by making her mark as a leader in the community through Street Medicine at Pitt, an organization that brings health care and social support to those in need.

As the student president of the organization, Lam worked hands-on with the local homeless population, and trained and mentored other students in what to expect, ways to offer care and how to remain safe. Lam also served in the homeless shelter health clinic and would regularly visit food pantries and other places where those in need gathered to receive care and life skills education.

Lam and the Street Medicine organization were featured in Pitt School of Medicine’s spring edition of PITTMED magazine.

In the following video, learn more from Julia about her involvement in the in the Street Medicine at Pitt program, receiving this award and her inspiring advice to new occupational therapy students.
