Clinical Participation Requirements

Admission Requirements 

  • A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) is required to apply to the Master of Rehabilitation Technology (MRT) program. No specific major is mandated; however, the degree should include a well-rounded general education with a distribution of courses in the sciences, mathematics, psychology, social sciences, and humanities.
  • A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (out of 4.0) is required.
  • Verification of English Language Proficiency. Verification is required unless the following apply: 
    • the applicant is a citizen of a country whose official language is English,
    • the applicant has completed a degree program at a regionally accredited institution in the U.S., or 
    • the applicant is not a citizen of a country whose official language is English but has completed a degree program at an institution outside of the U.S. where the language of instruction is English and where the official national language of the country in which the institution is located is English.  

Application Requirements

  • Complete the GradCAS application.
  • Submit the application fee of $50 (U.S.).
  • Provide evidence of graduate level writing skills as demonstrated in a self-evaluation essay that discusses goals, strengths, skills, and experiences that will contribute to success in the program and in the profession. This essay should include a brief statement discussing the applicant’s interest in the field of study and reasons for applying to the University of Pittsburgh. Potential students should mention their interest in fellowships in this personal essay.
  • Submit two letters of recommendation, preferably from individuals who have taught applicants in academic settings and/or supervised clinical or research activities. These letters should address academic, professional, and personal attributes, as well as potential for meaningful graduate study. 
  • Transcripts from all U.S. colleges and universities attended. 
  • A course-by-course evaluation with GPA conversion for all higher institutions attended outside the US. The evaluation may be from World Education Services (WES), Inc. or Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE), Inc.
  • All admitted students will be required to provide official transcripts and/or credential evaluations to the SHRS Admissions Office prior to enrolling in classes.

If applicable:

  • Request official English Language Proficiency test scores from one of the following options. Minimum scores accepted follow:
  • Unofficial scores may be provided via GradCAS (in addition to the official scores required).

AccelerATe Scholarship

Applicants to the MRT and P&O programs can apply for the Department's AccelerATe Scholarship which recognizes the value of diverse applicants and aims to increase the diversity in the rehab tech field. Here's how.

Tuition

The Academic Year 2024-2025 Tuition Rates for MRT Students (costs vary by year). Students will also be required to attend a hands-on lab in Pittsburgh over one or two days during the fall term.

These costs do not include academic fees, which may vary for full and part-time students.
