Pitt’s Athletic Training program provides unparalleled hands-on experiences in a variety of sports settings like football, ice hockey, swimming and gymnastics. Students gain clinical exposure well above the minimum standards to sit for the professional certification exam. Graduates enjoy exceedingly high first-time pass rates on the BOC exam and our athletic training alumni work in a variety of professional sports settings.

Type of Degree
This degree prepares you to be eligible to sit for the national Board of Certification examination for athletic trainers.
Accelerated MS
This is a three-year program with one year of undergraduate-level coursework and two years of graduate coursework. This entry point requires students to have at least 60 credits to apply.
At the conclusion of year two, students will be awarded a Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Science with a concentration in Pre-Athletic Training. At the end of year three, students will be awarded with a Master of Science in Athletic Training.

This is a two-year graduate program. Upon completion of year two, students will be awarded the Master of Science in Athletic Training.

Format(s)
Students rotate through four (4) clinical rotations. Students will be assigned to on-campus and off-site affiliated settings during their clinical education.

The accelerated entry point has a unique breakdown between undergraduate and graduate tuition costs.
Students that complete the program will be prepared to sit for the national Board of Certification examination.
Established in 1978 as a National Athletic Trainers’ Association-approved curriculum, the program has since passed an extensive evaluation earning initial accreditation in 1997 and continuing accreditation in 2004, 2012, nd 2024. The next accreditation review, including on-site evaluation, will be scheduled for the 2033-2034 academic year and overseen the by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
