Accelerated Master of Science

Students pay undergraduate tuition and fees for the first four semesters and will then pay graduate tuition and fees for the last two semesters of the program.

Master of Science

Students pay graduate tuition and fees for all five semesters of the program.

Summer Tuition, Pre-Professional Phase

  • Students will be billed on a per-credit basis for the summer term (first semester).
  • For the Summer Term of year one, the tuition is the University per graduate credit rate x 1 credit.

 

Additional Programs Costs

The following includes a list of items that will (may) be a component of a student’s academic and clinical education experience. In all cases it is the responsibility of the student to pay these additional costs:

  • Textbooks, etc. – varies
  • Clinical Attire – limited amounts of branded apparel will be provided to each student at no cost. Purchasing additional clinical attire will be the financial responsibility of each student. Costs will vary.
  • Physical Examination/Health Insurance/ Vaccinations – varies
  • Transportation to Off-Campus Affiliated Settings
  • Off-Campus sites are within 25 mi of Oakland campus
  • Approximate cost for travel to off-campus sites – ($550)
  • Cost calculated based on estimated vehicle mileage x estimated gas rate for 5 days per week x 15 weeks

The Dr. Freddie Fu Athletic Training Scholarship

Dr. Freddie H. Fu has been instrumental in the development and success of the Athletic Training/Sports Medicine program. Several years ago, Dr. Fu endowed a scholarship to be awarded to worthy students pursuing a career in athletic training. First awarded in 2000, this scholarship recognizes four students who demonstrate outstanding academic and clinical excellence as well as involvement in activities outside the athletic training program that bring credit to oneself, the University and the profession of athletic training.

  • Applicants must be enrolled in the Athletic Training Education Program at the University of Pittsburgh.
  • Applications will be posted after Spring Recess.

Tim Kerin Memorial Scholarship

The Tim Kerin Memorial Scholarship has been established in cooperation with the Department of Athletics, the Athletic Education Program at the University of Pittsburgh and the Optimist Club of Wilmerding, PA, to assist worthy students in obtaining an undergraduate degree in athletic training. Tim Kerin was a dedicated athletic trainer who worked at the University of Pittsburgh as Head Athletic Trainer from 1970-1976.

  • Eligible applicants must be a senior undergraduate student, in good academic standing, enrolled in the Athletic Training Education Program.
  • The scholarship is awarded on the basis of school and community activities, leadership, citizenship and scholarship.
  • Applicants applying for the award should exhibit characteristics that support the legacy of Tim Kerin.
  • Applications will be posted sometime during the first part of the fall semester.

Jill Conley Memorial Award

The Jill Conley Memorial Fund was established in 2014 to pay tribute to our former faculty member and the athletic trainer for Pitt Women’s Basketball from 2000-2010. The Jill Conley Memorial Fund was developed via a partnership between the Department of Sports Medicine/Nutrition and the Department of Athletics at the University of Pittsburgh.

Award amounts vary per year.

David H. Perrin Student Award

The David H. Perrin Student Award is presented to a graduate or undergraduate student from the Athletic Training or Sports Medicine programs. The award shall be applied to expenses associated with the student’s academic program.

Schoolwide Funding Resources

Matriculated SHRS students at the undergraduate and graduate level have the opportunity to apply for the following scholarships and financial award opportunities. Some awards are offered through the University and others are school-wide.

Merit Scholarship

The merit scholarships comprise three awards administered under a common application process. The purpose of these scholarships is to acknowledge and aid students who demonstrate high-level scholastic achievement and financial need. Multiple scholarships are awarded per year, pending available funds.

Selection of Awardees Details

Awardees will be selected by the SHRS Executive Committee. The amount of the awards will depend on available funds and the student’s financial needs and essay composition.

  • Students only need to apply once and will automatically be considered for all three awards.

    • UPMC Endowed Scholarship
  • Students can only receive the scholarship once as an undergrad and once as a graduate student.

Awards for the 2024-2025 term will be announced in mid-January 2025 and be applied to the student’s spring bill.

The Dr. Timothy C. and Mrs. Cynthia B. Sell Student Award

Donors Dr. Timothy Sell and Mrs. Cynthia Sell have established an endowed fund to promote diversity and inclusion within the SHRS student body. The SHRS Faculty Executive Committee will choose the award recipient(s) in mid-January and the award will be applied to the student’s spring tuition bill. Awards will be presented annually pending receipt of qualifying applications.

These opportunities both recognize past accomplishments and give students enriching educational experiences beyond the classroom. Current Pitt Students – How to Apply

Current Pitt students can access PittFund$Me by following this process:

  1. Login to your MyPitt account and search for PittFund$Me. Select the icon and you will be directed to your Student Dashboard.
  2. Once in the system, you will be asked a series of basic questions that will match you to scholarship opportunities from the University of Pittsburgh and outside organizations (all external scholarships have been fully vetted for legitimacy so that you can apply confidently).
  3. The more questions you answer, the more scholarships you can be matched to (you will only see Pitt scholarships when they are open and if they require an application).
  4. For matched scholarships, click the Apply button to navigate to the external organization’s website where you can submit your application.

You’ll be able to manage all of your applications in your personalized dashboard, and Pitt will post alerts for new scholarships that might be interesting to you.

The Office of International Services (OIS) provides a financial document to inform international graduate students of the financial requirement in order to issue a student visa document (Form I-20 or DS-2019). The document is updated annually.
