What are the Guaranteed Admissions programs?

Pitt’s Guaranteed Admissions Programs (GAP) offer students a secure pathway to graduate study, ensuring admission to select Pitt graduate programs while allowing them to pursue any* undergraduate major that aligns with their interests and career goals. While it does not shorten the time required to complete a degree, you will gain special access to faculty, current students and opportunities to learn more about the field throughout your undergraduate studies.

Students applying to Pitt as first-year undergraduate students may be eligible for the GAP offered by select SHRS graduate programs. Answer the question “Would you like to be considered for a Guaranteed Admission Program?” on your first-year application to be screened for a guarantee.

SHRS Guaranteed Admissions Programs include:

*The Communication Science and Disorders Guarantee requires students to complete an undergraduate degree in Communication Science (BA).

What is the profile of a successful applicant?

On average, applicants who are accepted to the program have an overall GPA of 3.76, a communication science and disorder major GPA of 3.89.

Are interviews part of the application?

No. Interviews are not offered or required. However, the program welcomes students to visit and tour the academic and clinical sites. Interested students can email csdadmissions@shrs.pitt.edu.

Can I add fall grades to my CSDCAS application?

Yes. CSDCAS will open the portal to allow students to complete an Academic Update for two weeks in mid-January. This is a separate verification process from the initial transcript verification. Fall grades should be submitted to CSDCAS when the Academic Update becomes available.

Please check with CSDCAS for the exact dates the portal will be open for this update.

Does the program have prerequisite course requirements if I will have a bachelor’s in communication science and disorders, or similar area?

Applicants should have a minimum of one three-credit course in each of the following topic areas:
