Ranked fifth in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, Pitt’s Speech-Language Pathology program provides students with a broad knowledge base, a keen understanding of the ethical responsibilities of speech-language pathologists and exceptional problem-solving skills. Under the guidance of faculty mentors, students will learn to deliver services in real-world settings.

Our graduates successfully pass their national board examinations at the end of their program and gain employment as speech-language pathologists.

This degree prepares students to become speech-language pathologists.

Applied Skills

Students participate in Clinical Practicum Placements in a collection of community-based sites. In year 1, students work with speech-language pathologists to acquire beginning clinical skills.

In year 2, students transition to Outplacement Practicum for more advanced clinical experiences.

The program will prepare graduates to participate in the ASHA Certification Clinical Fellowship.

Certification
and Licensure

This program includes both classroom and clinical experience necessary to obtain certification and licensure. After completion of a Clinical Fellowship, alumni would be able to obtain the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in speech-language pathology.

Alumni are also able to apply for state licensure (http://www.dos.state.pa.us/bpoan) and educational certification in Pennsylvania (http://www.pde.state.pa.us/) and a wide variety of other states following program completion. Please connect with the program for specific questions about future licensure at: csdadmissions@shrs.pitt.edu.
