The School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences’ community of learners extends across the globe. Through our online and hybrid programs, we are increasing access to high-quality, hands-on health care education and training.
We offer evidence-based course designs, support systems and services for our online and hybrid students to be successful. SHRS has dedicated online and hybrid faculty who work with leading technology and course designers to ensure students receive the very best instruction and hands-on training wherever they are.
As you consider online or hybrid offerings, please take a moment to review the following characteristics of successful online learners.

All online and hybrid students are provided the unique benefit of being matched with a program support coach, who works alongside program faculty and staff to contribute to students’ success.

As members of the Center for Academic Advising and Student Success, the support coaches also host workshops and events to contribute to SHRS students’ development and success in a variety of areas.
All online classes are delivered to the students through Canvas.
Canvas is a web-based learning management system or learning management system (LMS). Canvas is the premier LMS for institutions of higher education across the country.

The hybrid programs require students to come to the Pittsburgh campus to complete the hands-on portion of the curriculum.
Interested students should be prepared to cover the costs related to travel and housing. Learn more about the hybrid immersions for each program.
Post-secondary institutions that offer education programs to students located outside the state must comply with the laws and regulations of the states where they seek to enroll students.
The State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA) is an agreement among member states that establishes comparable national standards for interstate offering of post-secondary distance education courses and programs. SARA is overseen by a national council and administered by the four regional higher education compacts, MHEC, NEBHE, SREB and WICHE. For more information about SARA please visit their website.
The University of Pittsburgh is a participating member of the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement and is authorized pursuant to SARA to enroll students in online courses and non-classroom experiences in SARA member states and territories. The University of Pittsburgh is also able to offer distance education to students in California.
