Varun Shilesh works on the Smart Tech for Paralysis (ST4P) project in collaboration with the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at UPMC Mercy. This project focuses on integrating smart home technologies to enhance activities of daily living (ADL) and improve treatment outcomes for individuals with limited mobility due to spinal cord injuries. Additionally, he supports the installation of smart home technologies in both in-patient and out-patient settings, working closely with clinicians at UPMC Mercy to evaluate their effectiveness in real-world applications.
Shilesh previously served as a Human Factors Engineering Co-op at ZOLL LifeVest, focusing on the usability and design aspects of cardiac devices. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including engineers, clinicians, and regulatory specialists, he contributed to delivering high-quality outcomes that met customer and stakeholder expectations. His strong foundation in bioengineering, electronics, and instrumentation, coupled with his passion for creating impactful solutions, drives his commitment to advancing healthcare technology and improving the well-being of individuals.
