Biography

Valerie Shuman is a physical therapist and assistant professor teaching in the areas of geriatric and neuromuscular clinical practice. Shuman joined the department as a research physical therapist in 2017 and began working on her PhD in rehabilitation science under Jennifer Brach in 2019. Her clinical history includes work in acute care, inpatient rehabilitation and skilled nursing facilities and she gained her appreciation for clinical education while adjuncting in the physical therapy programs at Duquesne University and the University of Pittsburgh. Shuman’s research focuses on improving quality of care for older adults with mobility limitations.
