Biography

Laura Waterstram joined SHRS as a staff member in 2013. In her current role, she oversees all department operations with respect to research conduct.  Waterstram’s responsibilities include oversight of investigator, trainee and laboratory operations, oversight and education related to research conduct and compliance and human subject research regulations and procedures.  She collaborates with department investigators to implement research procedures in accordance with best scientific, clinical and regulatory practices. 

As a member of the Department of Occupational Therapy, Waterstram brings her clinical experience as an occupational therapist in inpatient rehabilitation and home health care settings to the research operations. She has research experience in roles that have progressed from a student research assistant, research assessor, research study coordinator, research consultant, research laboratory manager and most recently director of research operations.  Over the years she has developed expert skills in research assessment and intervention, research management, research integrity, human subject research regulations and protections, responsible conduct of research and research data security.  Prior to her occupational therapy training and practice, Waterstram worked as a research staff member at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health in the Department of Epidemiology.
