Biography

Kevin Ambrocio transferred to the University of Pittsburgh from the University of South Alabama with his advisor, Associate Professor Kendrea Garand. His current research primarily focuses on understanding how sporadic inclusion body myositis affects upper aerodigestive function (i.e., swallowing and airway clearance mechanisms). He finds this work incredibly exciting because it allows him to address a significant challenge for a patient group that is often overlooked. Through this research, he aims to lay the groundwork for more comprehensive and robust studies and develop clinical practice guidelines that will enhance health outcomes for those living with this rare disease. After earning his PhD, he plans to pursue a postdoctoral position and then a research faculty role at a research-intensive institution, focusing on advancing aerodigestive research for sporadic inclusion body myositis and other rare diseases.
