Biography

Amanda (Mandy) Mahoney started the CSD PhD program in 2017, immediately after finishing the SLP Master’s program at Pitt. She chose to stay at Pitt because of their excellent reputation for research and to study under her advisor and mentor, Professor Jim Coyle. She has been privileged to research and publish on infant feeding and swallowing disorders during the program, which offers new insights to an understudied field. She has also been working as a Graduate Student Researcher in Coyle’s lab where they are creating a non-invasive screening device to detect swallowing dysfunction in adults. Her goals are to merge her work from these past many years to provide affordable, accessible and non-invasive swallowing solutions across the lifespan.
