Alyssa Kelly works in the Language Rehabilitation and Cognition Lab. Since completing her graduate studies in SHRS, she has practiced clinically as a speech-language pathologist in inpatient rehabilitation and long-term care settings with a focus on assessment and treatment of neurogenic communication and swallowing disorders. These clinical experiences helped develop her interest in aphasia and counseling and allowed her to learn from her patients about the impact psychosocial factors have on aphasia recovery. The intersection of these interests led her to her current position, in which she supports clinical trials focused on counseling and adaptive computer-based language treatments for stroke survivors with aphasia. In addition to her primary role as a research SLP, Kelly also serves as an instructor on the SHRS in Ireland study abroad program for undergraduate students.
