Clinical Fellowship

What is the Clinical Fellowship?

The Clinical Fellowship (CF) is the mentored experience that allows new graduates to develop their professional and clinical skills with the support of a more-experienced colleague. Lasting at least 36 weeks, the goal of the CFY is to support early-career practitioners in becoming independent speech-language pathologists.

How does Pitt Prepare you for it?

To participate in a CF experience, a student must complete a graduate program that includes academic coursework and supervised clinical experiences. Pitt’s master’s in speech-language pathology program is an accredited program that ensures that students have completed the necessary clinical and academic coursework to transition into a CF.

Beyond this, Pitt supports students in navigating the CF process through advising and coursework. When students leave Pitt’s Speech-Language Pathology program, they are prepared to apply for their preferred CF experience.

Benefits of completing the Clinical Fellowship

Participation in a CF allows new graduates to receive mentorship from established clinicians, cultivate professional independence, and develop clinical skills. Upon completion of the CF, individuals are eligible to apply for national certification, ASHA’s Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCCs).

How to take the next step?
