Proof of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification is required to apply for the Pitt EM program. If students do not have this certification, courses/classes are offered at Pitt to prepare them for the test.
This course provides learners with the cognitive knowledge and values to develop as an emergency medical professional at the basic life-support level. This course meets all the minimum training requirements as established by the U.S. Department of Transportation in the EMT, National Education Standards. It also provides the learner with the opportunity to develop basic life-support psychomotor skills. Successful completion of this course makes the learner eligible to become certified by the National Registry of EMTs and the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Due to high enrollment requests the program utilizes a Qualtrics survey for permission code requests. Please only complete the survey once.
Summer EMT
PLEASE NOTE: Completing this survey does not guarantee that interested individuals will be given a permission code. Permission codes are distributed based on a number of factors set by the program.
Permission codes will tentatively be distributed beginning February 14, 2025.
Please note that the enrollment period may begin before permission codes are distributed. The program is not able to determine the likelihood of interested students getting a permission code. The permission code distribution is on a rolling basis with a predetermined selection process. Permission codes are distributed through Pitt email.
Students will have 72 hours to use the permission code. If the code is unused, the program will move on to the next person on the list.
Students do not need to take any additional steps to get on the waiting list. If it comes to a point where an interested student is unlikely to receive a permission code, the program will contact them.
If students receive a permission code, they will only be eligible to sign up for the class during the time that was originally selected in the survey (Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday). There is also a mandatory weekly lab [three (3) hours] that the student will be required to sign up for upon enrollment in the class.
