Meet a few of our students in the class of 2023 Master of Sports Science program! They come from a variety of places, backgrounds and all bring a special perspective to the program. Find out what they are doing in their internships and what they love most about their time at Pitt!
Kris Herlitz (MS ‘23)
- Hometown: Franklin, Massachusetts
- Undergraduate Degree: Kinesiology
- Internship Experience: Pitt Football – He is collecting and analyzing data from industry-standard technology such as Catapult and Hawkin Dynamics force plates to inform training and monitor performance.
- Fun Facts: Herlitz is a big UFC fan, plays the guitar and rock climbs!
- Favorite part of the program: He likes the opportunity to learn in a practical, high-performance environment.
Silas Newby (MS’ 23)
- Hometown: Seattle, Washington
- Undergraduate Degree: Exercise Science
- Internship Experience: Carnegie Mellon University Strength and Conditioning – His internship includes working with athletes in sports such as football, men’s and women’s soccer, basketball, golf, cross country, tennis and softball.
- Fun Fact: After graduation, he wants to be a strength coach to help athletes get fit and continue coaching track and field.
- Favorite part of the program: Internship experience – Newby states that this experience has given him the chance to become a better coach and build relationships with athletes.
Zechariah Nachazel (MS’ 23)
- Hometown: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
- Undergraduate Degree: Industrial and Systems Engineering
- Internship Experience: Neuromuscular Research Laboratory (NMRL) – Nachazel is a research assistant working on active projects such as Physiological Resilience and Paired Associative Stimulation Following ACL Reconstruction.
- Favorite part of the program: He enjoys gaining exposure to various opportunities in the sports science field.
Greg Ho (MS’ 23)
- Hometown: Ontario, Canada
- Undergraduate Degree: Kinesiology
- Internship Experience: Pitt Men’s Basketball – Ho monitors and operates performance and load tests via cutting-edge technology like Catapult and Hawkin Dynamics force plates, and assists with the strength and conditioning program.
- Favorite part of the program: He likes gaining work experience in a high-performance sports organization and learning from experts in their respective fields.
