Original Story:

PAs Are Leaders

PAs are well-suited to improve the quality of health care. We can improve outcomes, enhance efficiency and mitigate disparities. This work benefits the patients and populations we serve. It also helps PAs advance their careers so they can qualify for positions in health care in which their work and leadership can have an even greater impact. Culminating in more than just a credential, this program builds transferable skills and is personalized to the professional needs and goals of its students and their places of practice.

PAs Are Scholars

While quality improvement, study design and basic research principles are covered in most PA programs, very few really prepare graduates to analyze and improve on their own practices. At Pitt School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS), we are changing that!

Our program offers a way for PAs to further develop their abilities in these areas through a meaningful curriculum designed for working professionals. DPAS students make an immediate impact in their places of practice during their time in the program, and they leave the program with a well-designed plan to further their work after graduation. The program includes the completion of an improvement project under the guidance of a doctorally-trained faculty advisor who will guide them through the program and remain a colleague and mentor after graduation.

PAs are Entitled to Work-Life Harmony

The program was developed for our fellow PAs to achieve their professional goals supported by high-quality instruction, in as little time as necessary, and at the lowest possible cost. The degree also embraces the name of our profession to show our pride and further our reputation as invaluable members of health care teams. The program respects and encourages work-life harmony through flexible plans of study and by supporting students’ individual goals.

We believe our work on this program has succeeded on all fronts. We have been honored to see the work of our students and graduates and look forward to continuing our work to advance the profession.

Hear from our Recent Graduates

On April 29, 2023, the first cohort from the University of Pittsburgh Doctor of PA Studies program graduated! Hear in the video below what some of them have to say.

In just one year this 100% online program aims to give practicing PAs the confidence and leadership skills to turn their unique experiences and challenges into meaningful change in today’s ever-evolving health care environment. Through the Pitt DPAS program, these students learned to promote and advocate for their profession, support their colleagues, and better serve their patients by enhancing their care.
